I had this feeling when I walked into my house yesterday that J.R. greeted me. I heard the jingle of her collar and had that feeling of unconditional love that dogs give you when you come home. She’s been gone since November 3, 2011 but I have her collar hanging on a mirror in the vestibule and, I guess, yesterday I hit it just right. It was a lovely ending of a good day.

Sheila Testified In Albany

I was born in Queens, NY just about 1 mile from where my family lived in East New York, Brooklyn in 1964 just four years after New York State Council on the Arts was conceived and one year before it was established as a permanent agency of New York State. It is so hard for me to imagine that there was a time when NYSCA and the NEA did not exist. Did you know that the National Endowment for the Arts was created by an act of Congress a year after NYSCA was established?
