Part of a trilogy of works co-presented with Abrons Arts Center and The Invisible Dog.

The Chocolate Factory Theater partners with Abrons Arts Center and The Invisible Dog Art Center to premiere a canary torsi‘s trilogy, CAST, STAGE, AUTHOR, which will be staged concurrently at all three venues. The trilogy draws from a collection of audio and video recordings (the project’s “archive”) that interdisciplinary artist Yanira Castro generated with fifteen accomplished NYC performing artists concerning the process of performing, casting and the complexities of representation.

CAST brings together a rotating cast of four performers, different each night, who negotiate a new script at each performance in front of a live audience. A computer generates a unique script culling from transcripts of over 100 hours of conversation with CAST’s 15 performers regarding casting, performing and the complexities of representation. It is a concentrated study of what constitutes a cast. CAST is part of a trilogy of works by a canary torsi premiering concurrently, including STAGE (Abrons Arts Center) and AUTHOR (The Invisible Dog) that examine how we (re)present ourselves in performance.

The other works in the trilogy premiered at: AUTHOR at The Invisible Dog Art Center (September 7-17) and STAGE at Abrons Arts Center‘s Playhouse (September 14-23).

The development and premiere of CAST was supported by The Chocolate Factory’s Artist Commissioning Fund established in honor of Chris Ajemian, the recipient of our inaugural Artist In Industry Award.
