In this particular work, we are using mirroring as a way to break down bias. Rather than mirroring ourselves, we are reflecting language and movement between performers and switching roles, so that the source and the reflection blur. As with all our works, bias is dealt with somewhat confrontationally; the material is topical and the characters are irritating. But for these performances the conveyors of the topical material and irritating traits keep trading their burdens. It’s hard to focus one’s annoyance at any one performer or identify who is the problem. Ultimately watching sets up a situation for questioning one’s affinities and identity politics. Who do you sympathize with? Still? Why? Objectification is known and out on the table, especially given all the nudity, but it’s hard to hold on to in this setting.
