Electric Midwife is a highly structured, formal and minimalist dance piece for six women designed to instigate a meditation around the elusive subject matters of perception and sensation. Gill and her dancers slowly developed Electric Midwife over a year-long process of garnering their skills into a rare dance, which celebrates the power of art in which concept and craft reinforce each other.
Choreography by Beth Gill. Original music by Jon Moniaci. Lighting design by Madeline Best. Performances by Anna Carapetyan, Danielle Goldman, Jennifer Lafferty, Tara Lorenzen, Nicole Mannarino and Marilyn Maywald.
Electric Midwife received numerous Bessie Awards, was remounted at The Chocolate Factory in January 2012, and has toured to the Fusebox Festival (Austin, TX) and Dance Umbrella (London, UK).
